Craftsmen: The Mongol People

Recognized as one of China’s official nationalities, as many as six million Mongols are scattered throughout various parts of the country.

Mongols, known for their tough warrior-like nature spend a great deal of time caring for their horses and livestock. In the past, much a Mongol’s life was spent on horseback. The horse provided the Mongols with a means of transport into battle, milk, blood, and meat for food, hair and skin for clothing and tents, and glue and sinews for bow and arrow making.

Although the Mongols are traditionally recognized for their fierceness in battle, they are also known for their hospitable nature. When a guest arrives, he or she is treated with a cup of hot tea, a plate with cheese, fresh cream, some curds and candies.

Even today, Mongols, reaching back to their nomadic roots, are a people who rely on natural resources for survival and economy. White Harvest Trading Company is helping the Mongol people by importing cashmere shawls, hand made felt Christmas ornaments, and silver.
